The Helmsleys' real estate empire in New York at one time included the Empire State Building, the Helmsley Palacehotel, the Helmsley Building at the foot of Park Avenue and the Tudor City apartment complex in addition to several other hotel properties.
The towering, sequestered 300-room San Paolo Palacehotel on Palermo's eastern outskirts, part of the empire of families in the city's notorious Brancaccio district, employed 120 workers.
