Osteoprotegerin which was discovered by Simonet in 1997 is a decoy receptor of RANKL regulating bone metabolism. Osteoprotegerin can bind to RANKL competing with RANK and block the binding of RANK and RANKL, which result in dysmaturity of osteoclast.
