abstract:The Durban Declaration is a statement signed by over 5,000 physicians and scientists in the year 2000, affirming that HIV is the cause of AIDS. The declaration was drafted in response to AIDS denialism, and particularly to address South African president Thabo Mbeki's support for AIDS denialists.
In addition, 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the Declaration against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and related Intolerance, adopted in 2001 in Durban, South Africa.
