abstract:The Dublin Theatre Festival is Europe's oldest specialized theatre festival. It was founded by theatre impresario Brendan Smith in 1957 and has, with the exception of two years, produced a season of international and Irish theatre each autumn.
The current version has been condensed into a play of about four hours in a co-production between the Edinburgh Festival and the Abbey Theatre of Dublin (which, we are reminded in a programme note, is the Irish National Theatre).
