DTN即时延容忍网络(Delay Tolerant Networks)。在一些特定的网络环境下(如星际网络,军事 Ad hoc 网络,传感器网络, 车辆 Ad hoc 网络)， 会经常出现网络断开的现象, 导致报文在传输过程中不能确保端到端的路径，这类网络被称为时延容忍网络（又叫容迟网络）。 DTN也是Disruption Tolerant Networks（中断容忍网络）的简称，网络中断是造成时延的重要因素，因此通常中断容忍网络也是容迟网络。
