From this Iron Age hill fort, built in 400 BC, the views sweepdown from the North York Moors and over to the Vale of York and the Vale of Mowbray to the distant Pennines, a low-rise mountain range sometimes dubbed "the backbone of England".
Each time a man stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweepdown the mightiest of walls of oppression and resistance.
