abstract:Darwin Harbour is the body of water close to Darwin in the Australian Northern Territory. It opens to the north at a line from Charles Point in the west to Lee Point in the east into the Beagle Gulf and connects via the Clarence Strait with the Van Diemen Gulf.
The decision to use Darwin (a city more heavily bombed than Pearl Harbour in World War Two) as a base for 2500 Marines and support staff represents the biggest U.S. deployment to Australia since the war with the arrangement officially ratified during a visit to Australia by U.S. President, Barak Obama.
