And, finally, Don Giovanni, which Kinmonth has re-situated in 18th-century Venice, home to Casanova and librettist Lorenzo DaPonte, whose roots in Venetian street theatre would have given the opera's original productions an abrasive topical edge as recognizable to contemporary audiences as Shakespeare's words were to the crowds at the Globe.
