As of12January 2007, 220 suspected cases, including 82 deaths of Rift Valley Fever virus (case-fatality ratio 37.2%) have been reportedin North EasternProvinceandCoastProvince, Kenya.
The targets were a police station, a smaller police post and a district commissioner's office, all in the densely populated Likoni area of Kenya's CoastProvince.
The tensions and rivalry that resulted in the violence have been ongoing for decades in the Tana River area, said Joseph Kitur, deputy provincial police officer in Kenya's CoastProvince.
