abstract:Clethra barbinervis is a species of flowering plant in the genus Clethra of the family Clethraceae, native to the far east, from eastern China to Japan. It is an upright shrub growing to , with dark green leaves long, and racemes of small, fragrant, white flowers long in late summer and autumn.
Inch thick bite marks on the lower branches of a Clethrabarbinervis, a Japanese shrub with long fragrant blooms, were found broken and the bark chewed off.
