abstract:Carolingian Empire (800–888) is a historiographical term referring to the realm of the Franks under the Carolingian dynasty in the Early Middle Ages. This dynasty is seen as the origin of modern France and Germany, with its beginning date based upon the crowning of Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, as western emperor, and its end with the death of Charles the Fat.
