Yugoslavia's chief of army staff, General Dragoljub Ojdanic, has accused the federal government and its prime minister, Momir Bulatovic, a Milosevic loyalist who comes from Montenegro, of leaving the army penniless.

Mr Milosevic's most senior Montenegrin ally, Momir Bulatovic has now resigned as Yugoslavia's Prime Minister - though his departure would have come about in any case as part of the formation of a new government.

Old-style communists, the many people who have no work, and supporters of the previous president, Momir Bulatovic, now prime minister of the federal Yugoslav government that Mr Djukanovic refuses to recognise, all tend to back Mr Milosevic, who hates his Montenegrin rival and longs to oust him.
