The human spirit will endure sickness; but a broken spirit-who can bear?
人有疾病，心能忍耐，心有忧伤，谁能承当呢啊？
Whenever they hurt, you simply placate them as if placating an unhappy child. If the child knows his parents cannot bear to see him suffer, he won't be able to endure any suffering in the future.
它一痛，你就哄它，好像哄小孩子似的，小孩知道父母怎样也舍不得他受苦，所以将来他就什么苦也不能受了。
Shihteh replied: "Only bear with him, yield to him, let him, avoid him, endure him, respect him, and ignore him. And after a few years, you just look at him."
拾得云：“只是忍他、让他、由他、避他、耐他、敬他、不要理他，再待几年，你且看他。”
