abstract:Batam is an island, municipality, and the largest city (on the island) in Riau Islands Province of Indonesia. It is a free trade zone, as part of the Indonesia–Malaysia–Singapore Growth Triangle, and is located off Singapore's south coast.
For example, plans to develop Batam, an island designated as a special industrial zone, as a container terminal to rival nearby Singapore seem a waste of money.
