We investigate how the evolution of technological paths affects a firm's market value. We suggest that the development of firm-specific technological paths contribute significantly to a firm's market value from three dimensions—path depths, path coverage, and path maturity. We show that for public corporations in four innovation-intensive industries from 1980 to 1994, path depth and path coverage contribute positively to the market value. In addition, path maturity has an inverted-U relationship with the market value.
