abstract:Air Midwest was a failed privately owned airline project from Lagos, Nigeria, which was to be based at Murtala Mohammed International Airport. The company has been licensed by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Aviation to operate commercial flights, but no further steps were taken towards the actual launch of services.
On Wednesday, the airline sector fell hard as oil prices rose, although though shares of MidwestAir Group kicked up 5.3% on word of a higher bid for the company from AirTran Holdings.
On the merger front, AirTran Holdings, the parent of AirTran Airlines, which serves long- and short-haul markets, primarily in the eastern U.S., announced in December a hostile takeover for another low-cost carrier, MidwestAir Group.
"To us and our people, it's extremely significant, " said Shane Cordes, CEO of MidwestAir Traffic Control Service, which provides controllers to towers in about 23 states in the East, Northeast, Great Lakes and central regions of the United States.
