abstract:Allenburg Bridge on Canada's Welland Canal typically rests only a few metres above the water level. When a ship approaches, the deck is raised to provide sufficient "air draught (or draft)" for the vessel to pass through.
In the past few years several ships have struck the bridge because its 151 foot airdraft is simply too small for the larger class ships that are calling on the port.
