Devas in late 2011 went to the Court of Arbitration at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris to challenge the deal's cancellation, seeking reinstatement or compensation.
But in February 2011, the government canceled Devas's contract with Antrix, saying that the bandwidth allotted was needed for "strategic requirements, " such as defense, railways and public utilities.
Deutsche Telekom Chief Executive Rene Obermann said in a 2009 interview with a German magazine that the Devas investment fit the company's strategy of expanding in fast-growing emerging markets.
