传动系（power train system） 指位于发动机到汽车驱动轮之间的传递动力的装置。传动系的基本功能是接受发动机的动力并传给驱动轮。除此之外，还能增大来自发动机的转矩；降低发动机输出的转速；改变发动机输出转速的转动方向；切断发动机动力向驱动轮的传输等功能。传动系由离合器、变速器、万向传动装置和驱动桥组成（见下页图）。根据传动元件的特征不同，传动系可分为：机械式传动系、液力机械传动、静液（容积液压式）和电力式等几种。
