鼠尾草精油是一种以干燥的鼠尾草叶片为原料，采用蒸汽蒸馏法提取的精油。用鼠尾草生产的鼠尾草精油具有退乳、抗风湿、抗痉挛、抗菌、抑汗、开胃、收敛、促进伤口结疤、净化、利尿、通经、利肝、调升血压、补身等功效，但是不能在怀孕及哺乳期间使用，因为它能通经和退乳，也可能导致子宫痉挛。 鼠尾草通常长着紫绿色的叶，开蓝色的花，但也有许多其它长相的种类。一般能长到约69公分高，野生于南斯拉夫一带，原产自地中海地区，大部分的精油也产自该地。
