别名：梫木、兴山马醉木、红蜡烛、闹狗花、泡泡花、珍珠花 、桂花岩陀、美丽南烛、炮仗花、细梅树等。 杜鹃花科马醉木属，常绿灌木，高2～4m。总状花序；每一花序有3～4花枝，密生壶状小花，悬垂性，花冠白或白绿，蒴果球形。全株有毒但花叶观赏价值极高，因此野外已难见到大型植栽。可做切花、盆景、绿篱和庭园露地栽培；茎叶都有毒，人畜误食，会导致昏迷、呼吸困难、运动失调。 叶有剧毒，其水煎剂可杀农业害虫。
试验证明，美丽马醉木提取物在不同环境下均具有十分稳定的毒性，完全具备进一步开发利用的条件。
