指无渗透活性的细胞体积部分。因细胞膜是半透性的，故细胞在含有不透性溶质的溶液中，像渗透计一样起作用。在体积V与渗透压Пi间，根据van’tHoff公式，Пi·V=常数。对无膨压的细胞，在平衡状态下因Пi与外液的渗透压П0相等，故П0·V=K。但因细胞的不同，上式并不完全成立，有时要由V减去一定的体积b才符合上式定义，即П（ V-b）= K。这里b表示非水相的大小。
