雕鸮【diāo xiāo】（学名：Bubo bubo）：亦称雕枭。属夜行猛禽，喙坚强而钩曲，嘴基蜡膜为硬须掩盖。翅的外形不一，第五枚次级飞羽缺。尾短圆，尾羽12枚，有时仅10枚。脚强健有力，常全部被羽，第四趾能向后反转，以利攀缘。爪大而锐。尾脂腺裸出。耳孔周缘有明显的耳状簇羽，有助于夜间分辨声响与夜间定位。胸部体羽多具显著花纹。 多栖息于人迹罕至的密林中，营巢于树洞或岩隙中。全天可活动，飞行时缓慢而无声，通常贴着地面飞行。食性很广，主要以各种鼠类为食，也吃兔类、刺猬、狐狸、豪猪、野猫、鼬、昆虫、蛙、雉鸡以及其他鸟类，有时甚至会捕食有蹄类动物。叫声深沉。雏鸟晚成性。遍布于大部欧亚地区和非洲，从斯堪的纳维亚半岛，一直向东穿过西伯利亚到萨哈林岛和千岛群岛，往南一直到亚洲南部的伊朗、印度和缅甸北部，非洲从撒哈拉大沙漠南缘到阿拉伯半岛。 （概述图参考来源： ）
