闪烁计数器（scintillation counter），是指利用射线或粒子引起闪烁体 发光并通过光电器件记录射线强度和能量的探测装置。1911年E.卢瑟福 借助显微镜观察到单个α粒子在硫化锌上引起发光。他又于1919年用荧光屏探测器第一次观察到α粒子轰击氮产生氧和质子，这是闪烁计数器的雏形。正式的闪烁计数器是1947年由J.科尔特曼和H.卡尔曼发明的。闪烁计数器由闪烁体、光收集系统和光电器件三部分组成。由光电器件输出的电脉冲经过前级电子学系统（放大、成形、甄别等）进入粒子数据获取系统，并进行数据处理和分析。
