钢水经由盛钢桶注入钢锭模，冷凝成钢锭的工艺过程，也称模铸，是炼钢的最后一道工序。炼钢炉炼出的合格钢水，必须铸成一定断面形状和尺寸的钢锭或铸坯，才能经塑性加工得到各种用途的钢材。铸锭包括从炼钢炉出钢(或炉外精炼结束)到钢锭脱模送至初轧厂均热炉间的一系列工序，即浇注前准备、浇注、脱模、钢锭精整或热送等。
