铁模亦称机器模。最早出现在20世纪50年代中期，铁模的紧压度较高，相对陈化速度较慢，但材质较易保存。曾采用过对开式铁模，制造麻烦，操作不方便，后来提出改为整铸式。经过一段时期的使用，整铸式铁模优于对开式。而且操作简便，对提高生产效率、保证铸件质量都有好处。铁模内壁尽量为直线，有折线部分，其折线应当修正，不然在折线断面处容易产生裂纹。
