所谓“重纽”，是指在《切韵》系韵书中，同一个韵的喉、牙、唇音声母地位出现两套反切不同的字。同一个韵，说明主元音和声调应当要相同，加上同为喉、牙、唇音声母，而且从韵图上看，其开合也是一致的。在这种情况下，仍然出现两个相对立的反切。这种重纽的现象，出现在支、脂、祭、真、仙、宵、侵、盐等各韵之中。中古的韵图（如《韵镜》、《七音略》等）把这两套喉、牙、唇音字分别列在三等和四等。例如支韵的陂（彼为切）、皮（符羁切）、縻（靡为切）列在三等，卑（府移切）、陴（符支切）、弥（武移切）列在四等。
