选煤厂是对煤炭进行分选，除去原煤中的矿物杂质，把它分成不同规格的产品的煤炭加工厂称选煤厂(或洗煤厂)。主要产品是精煤和块煤，此外还有中煤和煤泥等副产品。选煤厂按产品用途分为：(1)炼焦煤选煤厂，生产低灰分精煤，供炼焦用。(2)动力煤选煤厂，生产火力发电、蒸汽机车、锅炉的燃料煤和化工用的原料煤。
