退行作用(regression) 是一种心理防御机制，是指当人们遇到挫折时，放弃已经习惯的成人方式，而恢复使用早期幼稚的方法去回避现实，摆脱痛苦。换句话说，是退回到前面的发展阶段，面对压力时，个体可能运用以前是恰当的但现在却不成熟的行为。例如：一个成年人，做错了一件事，之后用吐舌头的方式，表现自己认识到错误，并希望得到宽容，以摆脱痛苦。
