《课程文化》一书共分三个部分。第一部分首先梳理艾斯纳、施瓦布、阿普尔、古德莱德等美国著名学者的课程观，然后借鉴人类学方法将美国课程的理论和实践归纳为“工作和生存训练”、“承接圣典”、“发展自我和精神”、“建构理解”、“思考民主主义”和“正视主导秩序”六种课程文化。第二部分依据一个统一的框架对六种课程文化进行探究，每章探究一种课程文化，主要内容包括：（1）该课程文化理论应用于实践的课堂描述；（2）该课程文化基本观点综述；（3）该课程文化的历史沿革；（4）该课程文化关于学生、教师、内容、情境、规划和评价的假设；（5）该课程文化的实践困境和批评。第三部分反思课程文化概念框架的内在困难，并讨论如何在未来的理论探究和学校改革中应用这一概念框架。
