证券交易场所是供已发行的证券进行流通转让的市场。证券交易市场的作用在于：一是为各种类型的证券提供便利而充分的交易条件；二是为各种交易证券提供公开、公平、充分的价格竞争，以发现合理的交易价格；三是实施公开、公正和及时的信息披露；四是提供安全、便利、迅捷的交易与交易后服务。我国最早的的证券交易所是上海证券交易所。
