西欧中世纪城市，指11～15 世纪西欧诸国新兴的城市。西罗马帝国灭亡后，法兰克王国仍保存了罗马时代的一些城市，只是经济活动有不同程度的衰落，查理帝国分裂后，西欧各国处于封建割据状态。随着社会生产的发展，在10 世纪后期，特别是11 世纪，西欧各国开始出现旧城复苏和新城产生的历史过程，统称之为城市的兴起。新兴的城市规模都不太大，一般只有1000～2000 居民。西欧中世纪城市，有因手工业发达应运而主，有因国内外贸易而兴盛，有因政治、军事、宗教地位重要而形成。
