西南气流，是由季风低压与太平洋高压牵引下所带来印度洋、南海的暖湿气流，风向呈西南风，故称为西南气流。由于西南气流使得台湾中部南部地区成为迎风面，暖湿的气流受到地形抬升后，常造成迎风面大量降雨，甚至造成水灾。
台风整体登陆后，西南气流的再次建立，造成褐飞虱的大量北迁。
After the whole typhoon landed, the southwest airflow rebuilt, and a mass rice brown planthopper migrated to the north.
黑龙江气象台天气预报员Yuan Yingmei说，“此次沙尘是受内蒙古西南气流的影响，吹向黑龙江的。”
Yuan Yingmei, Weather Forecaster of Heilongjiang Meteorology Office, said, the sand is coming to Heilongjiang province by a Southwest Airflow from Inner Mongolia.
“这些作用聚合形成一股强烈的气流，当它们从西部或是西南部穿越落基山脉时尤为明显。” Brooks说。
"One thing that brings those things together is a strong jet stream, " says Brooks, "especially if it comes from the west or south-west, over the Rockies."
