“血液银行”即建立血小板志愿者库，为解决血小板供应紧张的情况提出一个切实可行解决方式。广州市血液中心透露，血小板需同型输注，机采血小板保存期只有5天，血小板的使用又多是急用。“血液银行”将建立一个1000人左右规模的无偿捐血小板志愿者库，届时将根据实际需求，按照血型，随机通知“血液银行”的志愿者采集血小板，避免浪费。
它一直发挥作用，直到1951年11月日被第48个血液银行实验室分支取代。
