艺术签名，又称“签名设计”，即对个人姓名的美化、艺术化。它不是今人的发明，古已有之，我们的前人称其为“花押”。类似于“花押”，另有“画押”、“签押”、“签字”、“署名”、“签名”、“署押”等多种称法，这些称法意思大同小异，它们都有表示认可、负责和示信于人的作用，于是就变得模糊起来，往往混用。今人也是如此，只不过将带“押”的字眼儿弃而不用，取“签名”、“签字”称法。现在我们只要提起“签名”，有时指的就是“艺术签名”。签名的签法、技巧数不胜数，造型千姿百态，风格各有千秋。
