membrane polarization 在离子交换膜表面发生水分子解离的一种现象。当向着有离子交换膜隔开的电解质溶液通直流电时,离子即刻作定向迁移。由于离子在膜中的迁移速度比在溶液中快,而溶液中的离子不能迅速补充到膜的界面,从而使膜界面的浓度低于主体溶液,迫使膜界面上的水分子发生解离(H2O→H++OH—),由H+和OH—离子传导电流,这就是常说的膜极化现象。膜极化现象对电渗析过程是不利的,在实际运行中必须避免。
