背诵（recitation）是通过诵读的方式记住识记的阅读材料。中国传统语文学习方法之一。其主要方法有比较法、归类法、熟记法、强记法、对比识记法、规律识记法、读写记忆法、列表记忆法、形象记忆法、反复熟读加尝试背诵的方法等。各种方法的运用应视材料的性质和长短的不同而定。一般而言，材料的数量不多，且富于韵律。如短诗短文，可运用整体识记法；对于长篇的课文或其他长篇的读物，则宜运用分段识记法以及整体识记文章框架与分散识记各段相结合的方法。它可促使学生在熟记教材的基础上加深对课文内容的理解，发展学生的记忆力、想象力和思维能力，并培养学生良好的语感。
