统计汇总是统计资料的汇集整理过程。为了能够反映调查对象分布的全貌，必须对统计资料进行汇总，即计算各组的单位数和标志值总量，并在此基础上计算总体单位数和标志值总量。统计资料汇总的方法有手工汇总和电子计算机汇总两种。前者包括划记法、过录法、折叠法、卡片法。划记汇总法是用点、线等符号代表每个总体单位进行汇总的一种方法。在汇总时，看总体单位属于哪一个组，就在汇总表上的相应组内划上一个点或一条线，最后计算各组的点或线的数目，得出各组的总体单位数。
