农历腊月廿四，相传是“灶神”上天奏事的日子。因此，从腊月廿三的晚上至廿四日，上海民间普遍有“送灶”、“祭灶”的习俗：家家户户点上香烛，祭供灶神，同时庆祝新年由此拉开序幕。
