砂姜黑土发育于河湖相沉积物上经脱沼泽作用而形成的半水成土，因而多分布于山前交接洼地、岗丘间洼地和河间洼地，淮北平原是中国最大的砂姜黑土分布区。分布于广西壮族自治区的黑粘土亚类是砂姜黑土土类的一个特殊类型。砂姜黑土具色泽灰暗但有机质含量仅1%左右的黑土层和含较多砂姜甚至成层砂姜的心底土层。砂姜黑土土类划分5个亚类，本区分布有4个亚类。
