现金等价物( cash equivalents)是指符合下述两个条件的流动性很强的短期投资资产：(1)很容易就能兑换成固定数量的现金，(2)很快就会到期，因此其市价受利率变动影响不大，一般三个月内到期的投资符合这一标准。美国短期国库券等短期投资都属于现金等价物。为了增加收益，很多企业都会把闲置的现金投资于现金等价物。多数企业在资产负债表上都将现金和现金等价物合并为一个科目列示。
