牛蝇又称牛皮蝇，体长约15毫米，粗壮多毛，形似蜜蜂。幼虫寄生在牛背部皮下组织内，引起慢性的寄生虫病；偶尔寄生于人、马、驴、羊和野生动物。由于皮蝇幼虫的寄生，致使皮革质量降低，产乳量下降，患畜消瘦，幼畜发育不良，造成经济上的损失。
