熟宣是生宣纸经上矾、涂色、洒金、印花、涂蜡、洒云母等制成的。熟宣纸加工方便，制作简单，容易掌握。熟宣也有用蛋青或豆浆制过的。 熟宣品种较多，有“槟榔”、“珊瑚”、“煮锤”、“蝉羽”、“云母笺”、“蝉衣”、“冷金”、“灰金”、“雨雪”、“冰雪”、“蜡笺”、“金花罗纹”、“翠绿虎皮”、“鹅黄虎皮”、“玛瑙虎皮”、“桃红虎皮”等多种。唐代名贵一时的“澄心堂纸”、“薛涛笺”和“金花笺”，即是在生宣纸上用重矾加工制成的“熟宣”。
