据史书记载，辽、金、元时、契丹、女真、蒙古等族，都有一种重要的礼俗——“烧饭”。清初，满族刚入关时，也保留了这一习俗。然而，“烧饭”之俗的具体内容究竟如何，有关史书的记载并不一致，所以后人对其理解也不尽相同。
