是根据岩石、矿石的激发极化效应来寻找金属和解决水文地质、工程地质等问题的一组电法勘探方法。它又分为直流激发极化法（时间域法）和交流激发极化法(频率域法(SIP))。常用的电极排列有中间梯度排列、联合剖面排列、固定点电源排列、对称四极测深排列等。也可以用使矿体直接或间接充电的办法来圈定矿体的延展范围和增大勘探深度。
