液相催化氧化是指在催化反应中，催化剂在液相（液态）反应物中进行的均相氧化作用。如酸雨形成过程中有一种途径是：大气中雨滴含有铁离子(Fe2+)或锰离子(Mn2+),它们把雨滴溶入的二氧化硫或三氧化硫氧化为硫酸，使雨滴酸化。这种金属阳离子在液相中促进了氧化反应的发生。这也是形成硫酸烟雾的机制之一。
