消费权是指消费者在购物过程中最基本的权利。对消费者来说，知情权是消费活动中必不可少的，它是消费者决定购买某种商品、接受某项 服务的前提。可以说，消费者产生某种消费欲望，以及真正实施消费行为，是建立在对该商 品和服务有一定了解的基础之上的，因为任何一个消费者都不会花钱去进行一种自己一无所 知的消费，如到商店购买蛋糕，一般都得看看产地、价格、生产者、生产日期、有效期限等，这便是对商品的了解过程。此外，由于商品品种繁多，每一种商品都有其独特的使用价值，以及与该使用价值相应的特点，即便是同种类型的商品，还区分不同的产地、牌号和生产 者，由此带来价格、质量等情况存在不同程度的差异，而且在服务领域中，也不断开发出 新 的项目，因此，消费者不得不对商品和服务作一定的了解，否则，无法作出消费选择。还有 不同的性别、年龄、地区的消费者，在消费层次上有很大的不同，消费需求也不一样，如果 在不知悉商品和服务的真实情况下进行消费活动，则往往与消费者的本来愿望相去甚远，达不到真正追求的消费目的。上述因素表明，保证消费者了解商品和服务的有关情况并确保其 真实，是非常重要的。
