水银气压计(nlercui'y barometer)由Moreland氏在1670年发明,德国人A. Sprung氏加以改良,是测量大气压力的仪器装置,其测量的原理源自托里切利(Torricelli)实验。利用倒置于水银槽内玻璃管柱中的水银重量与周围大气压力平衡的原理,而以水银柱的高度表示大气压力。一个标准大气压(atm,standard atmosphere)等于76 em水银柱的高度。
