望形：就是观察病人的形体、营养发育状态、以及肥壮、瘦弱、高大、矮小、端正与畸形等。望形，可知病人体质的强弱、正气的盛衰。 正常的体形是，身体各部外观均匀，发育相称，胸廓宽厚，肌肉结实，五官端正，动作敏捷，活动自如。这是体质强壮，正气充旺的表现。 病态的体形有：肢体畸形，鸡胸，龟背（多见于软骨病，佝偻病，脊椎结核），矮小侏儒（多肾虚、先天不足）；虚胖（肥胖病）；消瘦（多见于消耗性病）等等。
