《时事新报》前身为1907年12月5日在上海创刊的《时事报》和1908年2 月29日创刊的《舆论日报》。前者主编是汪剑秋，后者主编是狄葆丰。两报于1909年合并，定名为《舆论时事报》。 1911年 5月18日改名《时事新报》，由汪诒年任经理。清末时，是资产阶级改良派报纸，宣传立宪政治。中国资产阶级右翼党团关系密切的私营报纸。1949年5月27日停刊。共出14785期。
